holiday knitting

I've just started working on the swirl felted placemats that were featured on the cover of the knitpicks catalog 2(?) issues ago. They're for my sister for Xmas, and I'm using knitpicks yarn. Unfortunately, my sister's taste in colors and mine are.. highly variant. So it looks like it will work out well (although I have 6 skeins of yarn attached to it at one time) although not as anything I would want in *my* dining room. BUT, that's why its a gift.

i had to chuckle at the way you worded that. what colors would you prefer for your taste? and what colors are you doing for your sister?
Her tastes run a bit more.. primary, I guess. She's got bright daffodil yellow (the closest knitpicks had to "marigold"), a bright kelly green, and a reddish brown ("maple syrup" I believe they call it). They're... bright.
Personally, I'd be more likely to blend a royal blue w/ brown and maybe pink or cream in a modern retro blend.. or to go obnoxious w/ maybe a lime green background with a small swirl of bright orange & brown? hmmmm....
